Inspiring Young Minds at the “Long Night of Science”
On June 28, 2025, the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung took part in the Long Night of Science (Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften), opening its doors to the children for an evening of discovery, curiosity, and hands-on science.
Within MemCat project, our partners in person of Annette Trunschke and Mino Borrelli welcomed curious kids to explore science in action. Above all, they captivated them by explaining global warming caused by CO2 emissions using a small experiment with a green and a dirty earth model.
Children were able to visualize how pollution and greenhouse gases affect our planet’s climate. The simple yet powerful demonstration sparked thoughtful questions and encouraged participants to think about sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Science Communication for the Next Generation
The event emphasized the importance of early science communication and the role of public engagement in building awareness about global challenges. By translating research into playful learning experiences, we aim to inspire curiosity and scientific thinking in the next generation.
